Ottawa-based BluWave-ai secures $9.5-million in Series A funding

PowerOn Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation, has acquired a minority stake in Ottawa-based BluWave-ai, which will use the proceeds to develop and deploy its electric-vehicle charging software.

PowerOn made the investment in BluWave-ai’s recently closed $9.5-million Series A funding round, which included other investors led by Capital Angel Network. With the investment, James Brewer, OPG’s vice-president of new growth and business development, joins BluWave-ai’s board of directors.

 

Over the past two years Capital Angel Network's members have invested $15M in early stage startups. Today CAN's 55 members include entrepreneurs who have exited or are leading companies, executives, Family Offices and Venture Capital firms based in Montreal to Toronto.

 

In 2022 57% of investments were made into women led or co-founded startups.

SheBoot Round Three: Fueling the Growth of Women Founders Nationally with a Capital Advantage

Invest Ottawa, lead economic development agency for knowledge-based industries in Canada's Capital, and the Capital Angel Network (CAN), a group of angel investors in the Ottawa-Gatineau Region, today announced the national expansion of SheBoot, the investment-ready bootcamp that helps to address the critical funding gap facing women founders. SheBoot is receiving advisory services and up to $342,000 in funding from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) to support this expansion and pilot this program across the country.
